A Note About Healthcare
Kelli’s Summer Healthcare Notes
Earlier this month, we shared several stories of the extraordinary work done through Stowe Mission’s Healthcare programming. We’ve added Dentists, Optometrists, Nurses, and more to this talented group of volunteers who faithfully serve our neighbors. Without the help of these precious volunteers, we couldn’t offer so many needed services to the community.
Vision
Our vision volunteers provide this care by helping people receive eye exams and glasses. Many of our vision clients haven’t been to an optometrist for years. Not only are our Optometrists providing essential vision services, but they are frequently identifying more serious issues that, if left untreated, could be life-altering for our patients. Once identified, our Optometrists can refer patients for additional care.
Dental
In our dental clinic, our volunteers are also making a huge impact. We see actual life-changing work done through this ministry. Many of us take for granted the ability to smile or even talk without feeling self-conscious. For some of our clients, this is an everyday reality. Our dentists, hygienists, and dental students walk alongside our patients to get them the care they need while encouraging them. A recent dental patient shared the sweetest comment with me about the founder of the Stowe Mission Dental Clinic, Dr. Danny Stowe. “I love Dr. Stowe!!! I wish I had someone like him in my everyday life to lift me up. He does genuinely care. Dr. Stowe is something else !”
Pregnancy Resource Center
Our Pregnancy Resource Center staff and volunteers are familiar with helping families during one of their most challenging times. Bringing a baby into the world is stressful for anyone. Imagine doing so with little family support, very few resources, and possibly without secure housing. The Stowe Pregnancy Resource Center team walks alongside many of these families while offering support, resources, and the love of Jesus. These dedicated men and women give so much of themselves to make the experience of having a baby or raising children a joyous one for our clients.
Please join me in giving thanks and praying for all our healthcare volunteers who lead the work at Stowe Mission. Their impact can be felt daily in the work they are doing. In many cases, their efforts are leading to an eternal impact. If you feel led to serve in our healthcare ministries, you can connect with us here.
1 Peter 4:10
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as
good stewards of God’s varied grace.
